It has a wide range of uses in aerospace, military, medical, and fire safety fields. TGS (Triglycine Sulfate) is an excellent material for use as a sensitive element in pyroelectric sensors because of its high pyroelectric coefficient, reasonably low dielectric constant, and optimal figure of merit. TGS-based pyroelectric sensors are sensitive to radiation in the wavelength range from ultraviolet to far-infrared and do not require the use of cryogen cooling. The Curie temperature point of TGS is about 47°C. By deuteration of TGS, the Curie temperature can be increased to more than 60°C. When a sufficient amount of L-alanine is incorporated into the crystal, the crystal can lock polarization-the crystals have pyroelectric properties without extra polarization. In addition, after heating the crystal above the Curie temperature, and then cooling below the Curie temperature, the pyroelectric properties can still be restored, therefore the crystal has high stability, is suitable for making pyroelectric devices with stable performance in high working temperature.

Key Features

Pyroelectric detector material for the infrared

Spectral response from 0.4 μm (750 THz) to 200 μm (1.5 THz)

High pyroelectric coefficient with a low dielectric constant

Higher figure of merit (M1) than TGS

Much higher coercive field E0 (900 V/cm) than TGS or DTGS

Used in aerospace, military, medical and fire-safety instrumentation

Specifications

Parameter

Specifications

Material

DLATGS (L-alanine doped deuterated triglycine sulfate)

Type

Pyroelectric infrared detector crystal

Spectral Response

0.4 μm (750 THz) to 200 μm (1.5 THz)

Curie Temperature (DLATGS)

56 - 58 °C

Coercive Field E0 (DLATGS)

900 V/cm

Figure of Merit M1 (DLATGS)

15 - 16

Form

Custom element, built to specification

Comparison of TGS, DTGS and DLATGS

Parameter

TGS

DTGS

DLATGS

Tc, °C

49

57 - 59

56 - 58

ε22v at T=25°C (f=1kHz, Ebias=5kV/cm)

20 - 40

17 - 19

17 - 19

δ at T=25°C (f=1kHz, Ebias=5kV/cm)

(3-4) x 10-3

(2-3) x 10-3

(2-3) x 10-3

E0 (T=25°C), V/cm

< 25

< 25

900

γ2 (dPS/dT), Coulomb x cm-2 x K-1

(3-4) x 10-8

(2.7-3) x 10-8

3 x 10-8

M1 at T=25°C (dPS/dT) x ε22-1

11 - 12

15 - 16

15 - 16

Data Sheet: DLATGS Pyroelectric Crystal (PDF)

Elements are supplied to drawing - send us your specification for a quotation.
